One of the themes in OMAM (Of Mice and Men) is the "American dream," it has powered the hopes and aspirations of Americans for generations. It began as a simple, but revolutionary idea: each person has the right to pursue happiness, and the freedom to try for a better life through hard work and effort.
So, what does the idea of the “American Dream" mean to you? What does it look like for your family?
On an 8x11.5 sheet of paper - draw, write, express your ideas for your future and what you want to achieve for yourself. What does your future look like, and what are the things you want to accomplish in this lifetime?

The Other side of the American Dream...
"Wendy fled from Honduras with her three children (Jared of 18 months, Jazmin of three years, and Eduardo of eight) because of the attempted murder she suffered by her husband, a member of the Mara Salvatrucha 18, one of two of the largest gangs in Central America. The complaint filed against her husband for domestic and sexual violence towards her and their three children had no solution in Honduras due to corruption." - Tapachula, Chiapas, 2014.
For many the American Dream is more than what they "want", for some it is a matter of living or dying.
For some not born in the country, the mythical American dream does not seem to apply. In his series "The Other Side of the American Dream," photographer Nicola Okin Frioli captures the nightmarish realities faced by migrants attempting to reach the United States by way of Mexico.
Your task is to ask someone about their journey here to the U.S. - ask them to tell their story. You may use guiding questions: Where are you from? Why did you decide to travel to the U.S.? Has your life changed? What would you tell someone who is in a similar situation as you were.

What are your impressions of the people whose photographs you see, do you have a visceral (physical feeling) reaction to viewing them?
