2. OMAM and MDB Movie Notes: You will use the OMAM and MDB notes to write ONE paragraph (using the information from the notes) comparing the similar ideas. The title of the # will turn into your main idea.
Movie Notes EXAMPLE Paragraph: Lennie and Maggie face discrimination for things they have no control over, Lennie's intellectual disability and Maggie's gender. George always felt that he had to take care of Lennie because he would get in trouble, but he also protected him from people who treated him differently because he didn't act like they expected a grown man to. After George talking to Slim about it, Slim realizes, “He’s jus’ like a kid, ain’t he?” “Sure he’s jes’ like a kid. There ain’t no more harm in him than a kid neither, except he’s so strong" (Steinbeck 22). When George was honest with Slim, Slim was able to see that Lennie loved puppies just like a little kid would. That is why Slim is so understanding when George kills Lennie, he understands that George would do anything to keep Lennie from harm. In Million Dollar Baby, you see the same ideas of protecting someone from discrimination, for Maggie it is her female gender. When Frankie refuses to trainer, he calls female boxers a "freak show" and insist he only trains men. It is only after Willie leaves him that he changes his mind about Maggie/women and trains her. Frankie does not necessarily think women are not as good boxers, he just thinks of Maggie like a daughter and does not want her to get hurt. Both George and Frankie, try to protect their friends from getting hurt emotionally and physically.

In Chapter 6 of Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card, Ender is trying new things with people and the Fairyland game. While playing the game and tired of dying, he tries something different, "He jumped at the Giant's face, clambered up his lip and nose and began to dig in the Giant's eye (Card 64)". After following the rules, Ender has realized that sometimes you need to change how you do things and talk to people to be successful. Digging into the Giant's eye also makes him think that he is like Peter and this is something that he struggles with - how ruthless do you have to be in order to be successful?
- ruthlessness
- compassion
- using play to learn about real life
- friends can be enemies
- the relationship between adults and children

Click on the class - Common Core English 9A (A means first semester) 6. We will start with BM2 - Part 1 (multiple choice) - Part 2 (essay) - you will write an introduction + body + conclusion - use the facts. Counterclaims: But there are two sides to every argument. In your argument for a new cell phone, your Mom stands on the other side. She has something to say against your claim that you need a new cell phone, and it goes something like, 'No, you don't.' That's your mom's counterclaim. A counterclaim is just the opposite of a claim. In a more formal way, she might say, 'Your current situation does not require a new cell phone.' Counterclaims are also provable and supportable by reasons and evidence. Not just, 'Because I said so.' When you're planning an argument, you need to know what the counterclaim might be so that you can make sure that you disprove it with your reasons and evidence. After you finish BOTH part 1 and 2 of BM2 - 1. Check your binder - see handout. 2. Work on your study guide.
